Our Year 5 class is an enthusiastic and growing group of learners who build confidence, develop independence, and take pride in tackling new challenges as they prepare for their final year in primary school.

Outdoor activities

Year 5 pupils take part in a variety of outdoor activities that challenge and extend their learning, fostering leadership, teamwork, resilience, and the ability to solve problems independently in real-world contexts. Pupils are given the opportunity to take part in residential visits to Llangrannog Urdd & Pendine Outdoor Activity Centres.

Reading

Pupils are provided with Welsh and English Reading books from the school library as and when needed.

It is the school’s expectation that pupils are supported with their reading at home. Please support your child by reading together for at least 20-30 minutes each day and discussing what they have read.

River Fact File
Research a river in Wales or another country. Create a fact file with pictures and 5 interesting facts.

Disaster Poster
Create a colourful poster about a natural disaster such as a flood, volcano or earthquake. Include key facts and safety advice.

Tech Then and Now
Compare an old piece of technology with a modern one. Draw or label the differences.

River in a Bottle
Make a model showing the journey of a river from source to sea using recycled materials.

Weather Watcher
Keep a weather diary for one week. Record the weather each day and explain how extreme weather can affect people.

Digital Presentation
Create a short PowerPoint, video or poster explaining how technology helps us in everyday life.

River Poetry
Write and decorate a poem inspired by rivers. Use descriptive language to bring your river to life.

Emergency Kit Challenge
Design an emergency kit for someone facing a flood or storm. Draw and label the items you would include.

Well-Being Challenge ๐Ÿ˜Š
Spend at least 30 minutes away from screens. Go for a walk, read a book, play a board game or spend time outdoors. Write 3 sentences about how it made you feel.

โญ Bonus Challenge

Create a project that links all three themes: rivers, disasters and technology. For example, explain how technology can help predict floods and keep people safe.
