Our Year 6 class is a confident and hardworking group of pupils who show leadership, independence, and a commitment to achieving their best as they prepare for the transition to secondary school.

Outdoor activities

Year 6 pupils take part in a range of outdoor activities that prepare them for the next stage of their education, encouraging leadership, teamwork, resilience, and independence through challenging and meaningful experiences. Pupils are given the opportunity in residential visits to Llangrannog Urdd and Pendine Outdoor Activity Centres.

Reading

Pupils are provided with Welsh and English reading books from the school library.

It is the school’s expectation that pupils are supported with their reading at home. Please support your child by reading together for at least 20-30 minutes each day and discussing what they have read.

River Research
Choose a famous river in Wales or around the world. Create a fact file including its length, source, mouth and interesting facts.

Natural Disaster Poster
Create an informative poster about an earthquake, volcano, flood, tsunami or hurricane. Include causes and impacts.

Technology Timeline
Create a timeline showing how technology has changed from the 1950s to today. Include pictures and key inventions.

River Model
Build a simple model of a river using recycled materials. Label features such as source, meander and mouth.

News Reporter
Pretend you are a reporter covering a natural disaster. Write a newspaper report describing the event.

Coding Challenge
Use Scratch or another coding app to create a simple game, animation or quiz linked to rivers or disasters.

Pollution Investigation
Research ways rivers become polluted and create a leaflet explaining how people can help keep rivers clean.

Emergency Plan
Design a family emergency plan for a flood or severe weather event. Include what you would pack in an emergency kit.

Well-Being & Technology ๐Ÿ˜Š
Spend one evening screen-free. Try reading, drawing, exercising or playing a game with family. Write a short reflection on how you felt before, during and after.

Optional Bonus Challenge โญ

Create a presentation, video, model or artwork that links all three themes: rivers, disasters and technology.

Success Criteria:

  • Present work neatly and creatively.
  • Include facts from reliable sources.
  • Show your best effort.
  • Bring completed challenges into school
